Cassie Kabwita told Bongo5 that, Tangled Mess is a special tribute to Kanumba because ‘he has indirectly made me who I am today’.

“I knew Kanumba from the screen in 2008 when I was still in college in Harare Zimbabwe, though we had never met we used to chat a lot about the film industry in Africa especially Zambia and Tanzania,”says Kabwita.

“He shared with me how he managed to blow up the Bongo movie industry in a blink of an eye. He told me the secret of making a low budget movie a success. It was through him that I knew a few bongo film makers and actors. Kanumba and I lost contact from December 2010-January 2012.I was in Lusaka and he called me from Dar, I couldn’t hear him right because it was raining all I heard was “hi cassie, its Kanumba from Dar” after that I couldn’t hear anything because of how loud the thunder storms were and the call was cut. In much 2012 he invited me to come to Dar so that we could discuss our new movie which he wanted us to work on together. Our meeting was a success at Mlimani City,he presented his script and I presented mine entitled “TANGLED MESS aka GUILT” and he fell in love with it. We decided and planned to do the movie in March with Van Vicker after his Ghana project the one he was supposed to play alongside the bongo movie diva Lucy Komba in Accra.

The preparations for the movie were going on smoothly till on that fateful early morning when I learnt from Ben Kinyaiya about his premature death. His death really caught me unaware, it put me in a shock I have failed to come out of till date. My dream seemed shattered to do this movie till last month when I recalled what he told me the last time I was with him. He said the secret to success is determination and focus. Never give up in life if you wish to one day be called a hero like Nelson Mandela. I wanted to do his life story but I decide to do tangled mess because he was so much in love with the story. I got Hemedy Suleiman to play the role Kanumba was supposed to play because I look at him as the future Steven Kanumba ‘the great’ maybe even better in terms of acting. Hemedy has really impressed me with the way he has brought out the character just like Kanumba would have done it. Today is our last day of the shooting and we hope to have our first premiere on 7th March 2014.”
