Women ask me what signs to look out for when they want to make sure
their guy's a keeper.
Here are three:
1. He likes women. He speaks highly of his mother and sisters (unless,
of course, they're just horrible people). He generally likes his
friends' wives and girlfriends. He speaks well and respectfully of
most of the women in his office. Working for a woman suits him just
fine, as long as she's fair and pays him well.
2. He's a door-holder. He holds doors and elevators for other people.
He's pleasant to waitresses, postal workers, or other service workers.
He makes eye contact and says 'please' and 'thank you.'
3. He's generous without being extravagant. He's happy to buy things
he can afford (for example, he might pick up the dinner check for
you and a couple of friends if he has the money for it. That means,
he doesn't use credit cards to buy things he cannot afford).
Three signs you should throw him back:
1. He starts sentences with, "You know how women are." He thinks
he should be the boss. He refers to women by insulting names (you
can fill in the blanks).
2. He makes proclamations about your future together without taking
your feelings into account: "When we get married, we're going to
have five children."
3. He complains about aspects of his life that he could change,
especially his job. Warning: A guy who hates his job will become
the husband who hates his job--and who ends up resenting you, your
future children, and household responsibilities for preventing him
from leaving it. This is a recipe for a hellish marriage.
When it comes to men, choose wisely. This is your life we're talking
about!
To your happily ever after,
